Alfatec Group and the eStudent Association have joined forces - officially opening a new chapter for one of the largest student competitions in the region – LUMEN!
As a Premium Partner of the competition, Alfatec Group was honored to create this year's task for the Data Science discipline. This project will give an insight into our employees' real challenges in their work. We take pride in our participation, as the task and the project itself were developed through the collaborative efforts of our Business Intelligence and Software Research & Development Departments.
Our Data Science Engineer, Matija Pajas, presented this year's task: 'To introduce students to real challenges we face in the industry, we designed a task that involves predicting hotel occupancy – a challenge our clients often encounter. Utilizing real data and examples from our extensive practice, we have invested significant resources in preparing this task to provide students with an experience of a real-world problem that directly influences business strategies in practice. With our expertise and experience in data science, the task is shaped to be not only educational but also an inspiration for innovation, adopting the latest practices, and technologies that are emerging in the industry. We expect this to be an excellent opportunity for students to delve into the world of data science, and we eagerly take on the role in shaping their professional direction."
During the LUMEN application process, students had the chance to connect with employers. We also didn't miss our opportunity to engage with the students interested in our work. They approached us with various questions related to this year's Data Science competition.
"We hope that a large number of students from different Universities and years of study will participate in the competition, accepting all the challenges of teamwork, innovation, and thinking outside the box. This is an opportunity for students to get to know the real sector, perhaps even their future employer, but primarily to push their boundaries, improve, and develop themselves," said Suzana Srpak, HR Manager at Alfatec Group.
LUMEN is one of the largest student competitions in the region, an innovative project initiated by the eSTUDENT association in 2020. It allows students to test their knowledge and skills in four disciplines - Business, Data Science, Development, and Engineering. LUMEN is the only competition in data processing and in-depth analysis of large amounts of data, as well as the development of Big Data solutions in Croatia.
Online applications for the LUMEN Data Science discipline are open until January 26th for all interested students. We invite students from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Montenegro, especially those studying Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, and related fields, to apply. The task we've designed will provide them with valuable experience for their future knowledge and career development.
